Q n’ A With Eagles Quarterback Robert Duck (Ducky)

The man himself, 89 stays winning!

(T) Today we have a special treat, of course after reading the title you already know what it is, we have Robert Duck in today. Captain of the Manchester Metropolitan Eagles and Quarterback of the squad, thank you for joining me today.

(D) No worries bro thanks for having me

(T) Right I guess I am going to get started straight away, we have some important matters to discuss (laugh).

(D) All right then lets do it.

(T) So my first question is simple, when did you start playing football?

(D) I Started playing American football with a youth worker in high school. He set up a team called the Pennine Panthers we finished 3rd nationally.

(T) Ahhh that is cool, something I forgot to mention is the fact that me and Ducky are friends away from interviewing days, however, alot of this is news to me as well.

(T) Anyways next question, what helped you decide that this was the sport for you?

(D) I just loved it, as well as the people I play with. That’s why I play, I’m good at it and enjoy it.

(T) I hear that, and you ain’t said a lie yet I’ve seen some of those throws anyways we know your origins now, but what was your greatest achievement in the sport?

(D) My greatest achievement, winning offensive and defensive mvps in both years at the Manchester Titans, Won offence in year one and defence in year two.

(T) That is mad, you really aren’t half bad at this are ya (laugh). Okay next up, we heard your crowning achievements but have you ever had a day that you wanted to leave football??

(D) My first year at uni was tough because I was smaller and not as good as I was at Under 19 my body was f***** and I needed a break.

(T) So the skill gap was pretty big between U19 and Uni?

(D) Definitely man, but I adjusted overtime and got a little bigger.

(T) Good job for sticking it out, I reckon it was worth it.

(T) Alright next one Have you ever tried to play any position other than QB? And why did QB ultimately become the position of choice?

(D) To be honest man Quarterback is new for me. I came to uni as the top ranked tight end in u19 GB

(T) Really? That is really interesting, I had no idea about that, pretty cool though man.

(D) Yeah man, I played left tackle and d line too.

(T) That is defensive lineman for anyone who didn’t know. Okay my last question bro, why would you recommend the MMU eagles to anyone going to uni?

(D) You get friends, and a purpose.

(T) Nice and simple, I am definitely convinced at least, man thank you so much for allowing me in your house and doing this interview!

(D) No worries at all man.

(T) That is all we have time for but hopefully this was as insightful for the auidence as it was for me.

(T) Until next time guys thanks for reading!

MMU Eagles decimate division one demotees Lincoln Colonia(L)s ! 21 – 0

Match day on an overcast Sunday!

The MMU Eagles came into this game 2 – 0 but hadn’t truly been tested since the season began.

This game was touted as the biggest challenge for the Eagles new coach (Rick Hurst).

The Lincoln Colonials had just joined a supposedly weaker division, so you could see Manny Met as under dogs.

The game didn’t actually begin till an hour after its initial start time!

Apparently the medical staff wanted a Sunday lie in…

Eventually however, the game began!

Lincoln pressed early, taking advantage of a Eagles team, with only their back up Quarterback (Robin)

Their running back made some solid progress pressing the Eagles. However, the defense made up for some stagnant MMU offense with key stops!

That running back was putting in work!

Perhaps the Eagles were lucky to go into the half tied 0 – 0.

Yet that is how it went and neither team could really complain.

Two members of my top 5 article! Plus wide receiver Josh Martin have time for a half time photo.

The second half saw one major addition to the Eagles line up!

Robert Duck returned allowing star receiver Robin to focus on what he does best.

Even if Robin made a couple mistakes… He can recover and make up for them quickly!

After a defensive stop by MMU it was there turn! And they made sure to deliver the goods!

Ducky with an absolute rocket down field that was caught with relative ease!

The great offense didn’t end there.

Then the breakthrough! Epic touchdown by Ducky to Robin! 6 – 0 Eagles

From this point on (spoiler alert) MMU had a lot of confidence!

The defense did not wanna be overshadowed! A beautiful pick after some A grade pressure by the D – line

The Quarterback (who really isn’t known for his running) must have been inspired by his defense when he pulled out this highlight.

Look at the fancy footwork!

When it rains it pours and MMU was by no means finished but play would be halted for what looked like a serious injury!

Blood, sweat and genuine tears go into these matches

But two ice packs later he is right back out there.

A little later Ducky hit Joe for a massive reception again!

Excuse the head in the way… Trust me it hurts me as much as it hurts you

The bane of recording… A big head in the way of a great catch!

From that beastly play led to the biggest touchdown pass of the day! Once again by Robin 14 – 0 Eagles!

The dagger by all accounts, Lincoln never quite looked the same after this score (No head in this shot).

The game was flipped after some uninteresting plays… But then Joe (84) turned up!

The game was pretty much over from this point! There was another touchdown but it came from a one yard line conversion!

It was an overall dominant performance by a team that has had some serious coaching changes since last year.

A few key pieces and a couple change arounds have really turned the tide in their favour, just look at how ecstatic they are about it!

They even got a laugh out of me…

Thanks for reading!

Top Five MMU Eagles to Fear!

The MMU Eagles have cruised to a 3 – 0 start! Of course in the ultimate team game that is Amercian football it requires contributions from everyone. However, there will always be a few stand out players!

We asked the Eagles who the top five teammates on this dangerous side are… here is their answer!

Duck QB (Left), Kass RB (Middle), Josh WR (Right)

T – No. 5 – Kassim Mayhoub (Running Back) & Scott Tomlinson (Linebacker)

Look, it was a tie so these guys will just have to share a number. Kassim is in his sophomore season, whilst undersized in his dimensions, his speed and power more than make up for it.

Kass has also become a kick returner due to his rapid acceleration, always seeking better field position.

He has had several issues making the starting line up recently due to issues off the field, however, his talent cannot be denied.

Scott is the Eagles defensive anchor and the only defensive player on this list!

With fantastic blocking and bone crushing heavy hits, he makes any opposing offense think twice before running by him.

I mean I witnessed the Lincoln game… he baptised a poor receiver with a hit that could be felt in Haiti.

He also doubles up as a offensive line presence. Without their determination and blocking, the star receivers and QB wouldn’t get to show us their ability. They’ll miss his presence next year.

No. 3 Robin Oakley (Wide Receiver)

Robin catches long throws down field like Drake catches feelings… At 6 foot 7 he is a nightmare of a defensive assignment no matter who guards him.

In their last match he had two touchdown receptions and really took the heart out of the other teams defense.

A towering safety net whenever a play breaks down and a verbal leader. He also doubles as a back up quarter back and offers a solid scrambling threat, versatile and deadly 1 on 1.

No.2 Ash Miller (The Hulk… I mean Offensive & Defensive Lineman)

Ash simply has to be one of the most physically imposing players in the Uni circuit. This man takes absolutely no prisoners.

I have yet to see him be pushed back an inch by any linesman.

He is a brand new acquistion and will likely dominate every match up he has for as long as he stay with the Eagles… what a BEAST.

Such a beast in fact, we couldn’t get a single picture of the man! He is MMU’s secret weapon!

No.1 Robert Duck (Quarterback)

Rob is not only nice as they come, he has a fierce competitive spirit, and an absolute laser of an arm.

Saying he isn’t the most mobile might be being a little generous, but with ridiculous accuracy and calm methodical drives, this man truly brings the whole team together.

After willing his team to victory with a serious shoulder injury in the second half against a just demoted division one team, it is clear why he is No.1 on this list.

So there we have it, there are several honorable mentions, but that may have to be for another article, until then next time you do a scouting report against the Eagles, these are some of the names you better watch out for.
